This makes me smile.....

After getting home from my run this evening....... here is what made me smile really BIG. Xian loves his new Trek bike that we purchased from Owen's Cyclery. He did not wanna get off to come in for dinner and kept doing hill repeats! I'm loving it! Look at him standing on the pedals on the climb!

Time to get serious......

Okay... with that said..... here is a list of races I'm aiming to complete. This should keep me more focused and on track with the training.

Scenic City Half Trail Marathon & Half

Saturday morning Trey, myself and Cat lined up for the Scenic City Trail Half Marathon. http://www.rockcreek.com/trailmarathon/ The day started already HOT. During the first mile or two I thought I was going to combust into flames. After a while I settled in, but it was still really HOT. My legs had zero power the entire race. I'm not sure if it's because I'm recovering from Ironman or if it was more to blame on riding the night before to Nightfall from home and back. Who knows....... very frustrating nonetheless.

Trey and I crossed the finish line in 2:11. Nowehere as close as we've turned that exact same loop over in the past. Cat however......Shocked us all and completed her race 30minutes sooner than we expected! Sergio and I had run back to meet her on the course and ran into her way before we thought we would. GO CAT!

I guess it's time to get serious again. I've been so non-commital and lax about training since Ironman! Time to set some goals and train like I know I can and should.

Bike to Nightfall......

Friday night Trey and I rode our bikes from the house and decided to meet a group of folks at Suck Creek Cycles for a group ride to the first night of Nightfall. http://www.downtownchattanooga.org/event/nightfall/may.php We rolled into Miller Plaza right smack through the infamous "Harley Row". One guy yells out "Put a motor on it". My friend Cat says back to him "I like my motor better than yours". Too funny.

Snakes alive......a great day in the woods.....

Today we ran on one of my favorite trails that we have also dubbed as the "Blue Hole Run". /www.cumberlandtrail.org/nchic.html This trail offers something for everyone. It's full of mining history, has rock ledges, a nice size creek, waterfalls, Rhododendron gardens, wildflowers and one of the largest blue holes I've ever seen!

The pace was nice on the run out to the blue hole. Once we got there 3 of our runners opted to jump in the ice cold water.....brrrr... After sticking my feet in I quickly decided that I would NOT be joining them. We enjoyed the scenery and jumped back on the trail for some more exploring. There are two campgrounds just beyond the blue hole and we went to check them out as we are seriously thinking about camping out there soon. When we arrived at the second one there were people there with tents and a fire. This spot was amazing as the waterfall right next the campground was flowing nicely. See pictures above (first one on top is the one I'm referring to). After our climb out and back onto the main trail we picked up the pace and raced back to the car. It was so much fun downhilling most of the way back and dodging rocks. Oh... and did I mention we ran right past 3 snakes!?

Wow.... what a nice way to spend the morning! Also... check out the picture of the man standing on the rock..... That's Sergio.... he is like 70 years old! I hope I'm able to enjoy life just half as much as him at that age!

A test of strength......

Saturday I decided to test the legs out. What's a good way to test the ole legs out? Climbing Nick-a-jack Road! I'd probably rate this climb at #2 in town following respectfully behind Roberts Mill Road and preceeding Burkhalter and Raccoon.

The good news is that I survived even though I had no choice but to stand on the pedals and grind it out in 3 or 4 switch backs due to steepness. The bad news is that it was an eye opener as to how much I need to work on my climbing skills! The scenery was spectacular as I saw wildflowers everywhere in full bloom. To me......that made the climb worth it all.

The rest of the day was spent working in the yard and doing house chores......

Tuesday night ride......I met Jesus......

Finally..... I rode with a group on Tuesday night. I've been trying to catch up to the group for a ride for some time, but it seems like I always miss them since I ride from my house. I enjoyed the company of Pat, Harry, Martin and a new guy named Jesus (yes.... he is Cuban and is every bit as "HAWT" as Cat described). A bit into the ride we were joined with Monica, Ann, Andy and some others. Most all of us opted for the climb up Mountain Road. I felt good climbing the first 3/4 of the way and then the power was gone. Oh well.... guess I'm still recovering from Ironman.... hopefully another week or so and I'll have that power back! Truly.... I just enjoyed having the company out there and cutting up with the guys. Oh... and looking at Jesus......

Treasures, Trails & Turtles.......

Treasures:
Spending Mother's Day with my boys & Trey!

Trails:
Had an awesome run with friends this morning on a beautiful trail http://www.cumberlandtrail.org/soddy.html .....including a little dip in the mountain stream. It's nice to be back on the trails in full force.

Turtles:
We saw a record number of turtles while on the trail.... a total of four! Cute lil guys.... they are....

All in all this was a great weekend. Yesterday I took a quick ride on the bike and spent the rest of the day with my best friend Michelle. And today.... was just wonderful too. It's nice to relax and enjoy things for a while with no worries of a race looming in the near future.

I'm gonna be sore......

Yeah... I'm gonna be sore after the trail run I did tonight. I ran out with a group on Raccoon Mountain and was planning on only running for 1:15, but ended up running for nearly 1:30. I turned back a little earlier than the group and hi-tailed it back to the car so I cold get home. You see.... I don't want to put Trey out since he was so patient with me through all the crazy Ironman training and getting home at a descent hour will ensure that I don't get "grounded" for coming home too late. It's nice to have some running company so I'm gonna try real hard to be a good girl so I can keep going!

Fresh......

This afternoon I left my house for a ride. I decided that I would do the whole Red Bank loop including the climb up Mountain Road in hopes of running into the group. The first half of the ride I saw no one.... not even on the climb. Even more strange.... I actually felt FRESH.... yes.... FRESH. This is something I have not experienced in quite some time (like months). I had such a good time climbing that mountain as my legs just kept on pushing gears that would have normally been painful. Maybe I have become so used to training alone that I've learned to get along with myself pretty well..... does this sound crazy? Because climbing that moutain this evening was just too fun! It's nice to go out and have fun without worrying what the next workout will be.

Back at it....just not 100% yet......

Well.... I've started back this week with some easy running and cycling. I really am not in a huge hurry to jump back in the pool just yet, but I'll warm-up to the idea soon I'm sure. Physically I feel great, but I don't have any "power". All normal I suppose.... as it's only been 2 1/2 weeks since Ironman. Hopefully the rest I'm taking now will pay off later. I'm actually excited about doing some speedwork and working on my running. Should be able to start with that in a week or so.

Last night I ran on trails for nearly an hour with some friends. I'm looking forward to more trail running too!
